A stealth-stage AI startup is hiring its first Applied AI Researcher to help design and deploy cutting-edge LLM systems for enterprise use cases. The company is building verticalized tools that apply generative AI to real-world knowledge workflows—think summarization, reasoning, and retrieval across large internal datasets.
This is a hands-on research and prototyping role, ideal for someone who wants to apply state-of-the-art techniques like RAG, ReAct, and fine-tuning to real client problems. You’ll work on everything from early solution architecture to shipping the first version, in close collaboration with engineers and technical stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Design and deploy retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and structured reasoning agents
- Collaborate cross-functionally to tailor solutions to end-user workflows
- Stay current on emerging methods in LLM evaluation, reinforcement learning, and model tuning
- Contribute to internal research and technical documentation
- Help lay the groundwork for a scalable AI platform
Who We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of practical experience working with large language models
- Deep understanding of RAG, prompting strategies, and structured generation techniques
- Strong foundation in NLP or ML (PhD a plus, but not required)
- Ability to explain complex systems to non-technical audiences
- Prior work applying generative AI in production or user-facing contexts
Tech Environment
- Python, PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain
- OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source LLMs
- Vector DBs, embedding services, evaluation frameworks
- CI/CD for model iteration and deployment
