AI Product Manager
(Applied AI, Agentic Systems & Workflow Transformation)
Compensation: $170,000–$220,000 base plus potential bonus
Location: San Francisco or San Diego — hybrid
The Company
An established, high-growth financial technology business is rebuilding core customer and operational workflows around an AI-first operating model. This is not an exploratory AI programme: production capabilities are already live, delivering meaningful results, with a broader transformation roadmap now moving into increasingly strategic parts of the business.
The company combines deep domain expertise and proprietary data with modern AI product thinking, data science and specialist engineering capability.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join a newly scaling AI product organisation and take direct ownership of real production use cases. You will sit inside a cross-functional AI pod, turning complex manual processes into clearly designed AI-enabled products and carrying those solutions through discovery, build, evaluation and launch.
You will work closely with an AI Product Director while having significant autonomy over execution.
The Role
You will embed with functional experts to understand how complex workflows actually operate, then help redesign those processes from first principles using modern AI. From there, you will turn the design into a buildable specification and lead delivery alongside data science, business stakeholders and specialist AI engineering partners.
The role suits a hands-on PM who wants to build deep applied AI experience rather than manage a traditional product backlog.
What You’ll Do
Lead structured discovery with subject-matter experts to uncover workflows, decision points, exceptions, pain points and operational bottlenecks.
Baseline current performance using measures such as cycle time, error rates, manual touchpoints and cost of failure.
Reimagine existing processes from first principles around AI rather than simply automating the current workflow.
Author detailed solution and design briefs that engineering partners can build against without ambiguity.
Coordinate specialist engineering partners through build reviews, feedback cycles and acceptance against clearly defined requirements.
Partner with data science to establish evaluation rubrics, golden datasets, QC processes and production-readiness thresholds.
Lead shadow runs, stakeholder adoption and post-launch measurement to ensure deployed AI creates measurable operational value.
What You’ll Bring
3–5 years of experience across product management, product analysis or a closely related discipline.
Hands-on experience working with AI-enabled products, LLM-based applications or agentic systems.
Evidence of taking ambiguous problems through discovery, solution design and delivery rather than owning only a narrow feature set.
Strong written product skills, including process maps, design briefs, requirements or technical specifications.
Enough technical and quantitative fluency to work credibly with data scientists and AI engineers and challenge proposed solutions when required.
A high-agency operating style suited to a fast-moving environment where product managers are expected to structure problems and drive execution themselves.
Experience in fintech, payments, lending, insurance, mortgage or another high-velocity product environment is strongly preferred.
What This Role Requires
Genuine applied AI product exposure; traditional software delivery or conventional ML experience alone is not sufficient.
Ability to conduct detailed SME discovery and translate what you learn into a precise, buildable product specification.
Ability to rethink workflows from a true AI-first perspective rather than simply make an existing process incrementally faster.
Comfort owning a workstream end-to-end in an ambiguous, execution-focused environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or a related field.
Tech Stack
LLM-enabled products and AI agents
Data science and machine learning optimization
AI evaluation and quality-control frameworks
Golden datasets, accuracy thresholds and deterministic checks
Specialist external AI engineering platforms and partners
Specific implementation frameworks and languages will be discussed during the process.
Why Join
Join an AI programme that already has production deployments, senior-level sponsorship and a defined roadmap rather than spending months trying to establish internal buy-in.
Own meaningful 0-to-1 transformation work spanning product discovery, AI design, data science, engineering and real-world adoption.
Build deep applied AI expertise inside a small, high-impact team where strong product managers can influence how the wider organisation operates.
